Yumnam Surchandra Singh (born on October 23, 1950) was the founder of Rural Service Agency (RUSA). Born and raised in Nambol Balaram Khul he completed his matriculation and graduation from Gauhati University. He did Post Graduate Diploma in Ecology and Environment from Institute of Ecology & Environment, New Delhi. He also completed Masters Degree in Environment Studies from Global Open University, Nagaland.
Later in his career he served as an Assistant Teacher at Kh. Nilamanjuri HB School, Moirangpurel and Koide Jr. High School. Being a father of four children he held different positions in many esteem organizations for instances; Secretary Rural Service Agency, President All Manipur NGO(s) Forum, President All Manipur NGO Partners Consortium on HIV/AIDS etc.
During his working days he was actively involved in many activities. He was a part of many organization across the country such as AVARD, SPWD, VHAI, CNRI (New Delhi), Manipur State Legal Service Authority, Law Ethics and Human Rights of PLWHA, Manipur State Aids Control Society, State Education Society, Vigilance Committee (Manipur).
He was best known for his work and contribution towards the betterment of the society. He was honored with many prestigious awards like Bharat Excellence Award & Gold Medal, Glory of India Award & Gold Medal, Best Citizen of India Award.
He was one of the best-known entrepreneurs and pioneers of NGOs in the state. Still many organizations started under his vision and ideas are running smoothly and strongly towards the development of the state.  |
